TORQUAY’S Tanya and Terry Reid were able to drive their disabled son Harry for the first time in seven months last Sunday.
The Reid family were “over the moon” to receive a secondhand wheelchair-accessible van after struggling to raise funds.
Ms Reid said the family previously battled to transport Harry, who has multiple disabilities including cerebral palsy, in their “1980s bomb of a car”.
Harry’s grandmother and carer, Maree Hansen, said seeing the Reid family able to travel together was a “delight”.
They were extremely grateful to community members who donated funds through the I Give a Buck Foundation, she said.
“I Give a Buck were great in promoting our campaign and so was St Laurence.
“We’re also very thankful to the state and federal government for their funding.”
Maree said an Independent story about Harry’s plight helped secure an additional $5000 in State Government funding.
