Muse of Geelong proves prolific

ARTIST Amber Daly was so inspired by her recent move to Geelong she created a series of works to celebrate the occasion.
Daly said she had been so motivated by the many new experiences, connections and relationships resulting from the move she produced a series of paintings and drawings.
“This is my first exhibition in Geelong and I felt it was important to show some of the work I created during the first few months of moving to Geelong, especially the Waterfront-themed paintings,” Daly explained.
Also on show will be interior and still life works, including containers and furniture from Daly’s new studio, as well as four new digital print editions of earlier paintings.
Daly creates with a sense of urgency and exhilaration in the act of painting itself.
“I find this integral to my practice. I use colour, line and gesture as a device to express my thoughts, feelings and reactions.
“My work is often described as ‘immediate’ and ‘playful’ and this way of working comes naturally, allowing me to quickly lay down marks and capture a direct response to my subject.”
Daly has also begun a Masters of Fine Art at RMIT, making this a fertile time of creative experimentation and new ideas.
She lists her main influences as Tony Tuckson, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Willem De Kooning, Angela Brennan and Marise Maas.
“I’m excited to be showing work in Geelong for the first time,” Daly said.
“I believe for an artist there is so much opportunity to be had and contributions to make to the growing art scene here.”
Daly’s solo exhibition Paintings and Drawings is at Metropolis Gallery from 17 July to 1 August.
