Christensen shocks Geelong

GEELONG midfielder Allen Christensen has shocked Geelong with a request to be traded.

The popular speedster endured a number of injury issues this season, but is highly regarded by Geelong coaching staff.

Geelong released a statement indicating that Christensen “has expressed a desire to continue his career elsewhere due to non-football reasons”.

“The club is considering its position in relation to Allen’s request.”

Both Queensland -based clubs have expressed an interest in Christensen. Geelong would expect at least a high draft pick in return.

Christensen was selected with pick 40 in 2009. He was understood to be very close to his family in Lara.

Another speedster, Travis Varcoe, is also on the trade block, fielding offers from Collingwood, North Melbourne and West Coast.

If the trades go through, it could be a different looking Geelong midfield next season.
