Bringing back memories

With an estimated 6000 people living with dementia in the Barwon region, providing appropriate support to them as they age is vitally important.
Uniting AgeWell Kalkee community Nangatta aims to care for seniors with dementia in a positive, dignified and holistic way, with 24-hour high-level clinical care by qualified and experienced staff.
The dementia-specific residence in Belmont offers old-world charm with modern amenities and services.
The home is decorated with vintage items to spark memories while a sensory garden with fragrant and tactile plants, vegetable garden, hen house and outdoor kitchen brings a sense of purpose, comfort and security as residents freely enjoy the space.
An inviting family room provides a welcoming environment for celebrations and casual get-togethers.
One of Nangatta’s strengths is its dynamic and engaging lifestyle and activities program.
There are frequent outings in the community bus to places residents enjoyed visiting when growing up in the region.
On Wednesdays, partners are invited to join the trip, enabling them to share the experience with residents.
Music and animals play an important role in people with dementia and many Nangatta residents continue playing their instruments or live with their pets, including dogs, birds and fish.
Uniting AgeWell recognises that everyone’s needs are different.
The not-for-profit organisation also provides independent housing, social support, therapy programs and home care packages in the Greater Geelong region.
The flexible and responsive services ensure clients get the best out of life, no matter where they are on their ageing journey.
Phone 5243 6688 or visit unitingagewell.org to arrange a personal tour of Nangatta or find out how Uniting AgeWell can provide support.
