GEELONG’S waterfront Christmas tree has been towed from its city site today after six weeks lighting up Corio Bay and drawing thousands of visitors.
The 27-metre steel and aluminium structure, with 11,000 moving metal discs and 500-plus metres of programmable LEDs was designed by Creative Productions Services’ Keith Courtney and built by Geelong’s Hanlon Industries.
The 15-tonne tree, which was fixed to a barge anchored at four points in the mini-harbour between Cunningham Pier and the Carousel, cost more than $300,000. It is expected to be put to additional, unspecified-as-yet, uses in future.
