Lack of self-esteem

With 66 per cent of couples experiencing some sort of sexual dysfunction in their lifetime, one of the most detrimental consequences is the lack of self-esteem that comes with it. This can be challenging for both parties and even destroy marriages.
World Health Organisation (WHO) studies show between eight per cent and 22 per cent of pre- and post-menopausal women are experiencing painful intercourse (dyspareunia). Of those women, only 10 per cent seek medical advice. Often women are too embarrassed to talk about painful sex, or care providers do not include sexual history as a part of medical history due to time constraints, a lack of training in this area or a lack of treatment options in the area of sexuality.
The causes of painful intercourse include surgery, post cancer treatment such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy, and more commonly, menopause causing vaginal atrophy (vaginal ageing). Now there is an innovative, non-hormonal, non-invasive treatment for vaginal atrophy and its associated symptoms such as itching, burning, recurrent thrush, urgency, urinary leakage, painful intercourse and vaginal laxity: the MonaLisa Touch laser.
Dr Fariba Willison, an endo-gynaecologist and pelvic floor reconstructive surgeon, has pioneered MonaLisa Touch in Australia over the past three years.
So why is it that so many people are talking about the MonaLisa Touch laser?
Dr Willison says it’s revolutionary. A quick (around five minutes), non-invasive procedure with little or no discomfort. The procedure will work (in most cases) with three visits (and then again 12 months later) and a couple of lifestyle changes.
As well her own practice, FBW Gynaecology Plus in Adelaide, Dr Willison also consults at ASFB in Geelong on a regular basis.
Australian Skin Face Body and FBW Gynaecology Plus are hosting a “Wellness, Health and Anti-ageing Seminar”. The event, including breakfast is on Friday 19 February 7.30am – 8.45am at the Novatel Geelong.
