About 550 passengers will travel to Melbourne on Portarlington’s ferry in the second week of trials, according to a promoter.
Four-hundred people sailed last week, 223 on Thursday and 320 were booked for today’s (Friday) trip, said Bellarine Ferry Group’s John Rae.
“We were absolutely delighted with the response,” he said.
“It just highlights the demand in the area.”
St Leonards’ Jim Treadwell, 71, said he enjoyed his Thursday trip to Docklands.
The ferry was relaxed compared to his regular drives to Melbourne, he said.
“We’ve made it to Melbourne and I haven’t yelled at one car driver on the way up.
“I’d probably add three years onto my life if this became a regular thing.”
Mr Treadwell said the $25 fare was good value.
