ADAM Goodes will return to football against the Cats in Geelong this weekend, he has announced.
The dual Brownlow medallist confirmed his return today after a week off to escape booing from opposition supporters.
Goodes credited widespread support over the past week for encouraging him to return.
“It was a very humbling experience to see the different things that our football club did, that other football clubs did and other players took upon themselves to show their support. I felt very loved over the weekend,” Goodes said.
“From all involved at the Sydney Swans, from other clubs and players from all levels of the game, from other codes, from the AFL, from so many in the community, the support has been amazing and it has been felt. It has been a great reminder of why I am one of so many people that just love our game.”
Goodes’ decision to take a break prompted claims of racist motivation for the booing, although some commentators blamed his war dance charge of opposition supporters and for identifying a 13-year-old-girl who called him an ape.
Geelong plays the Swans at Simonds Stadium on Saturday.
