Police arrested a man after he allegedly fired an officer’s handgun during a scuffle in North Geelong Wednesday morning.
Officers attended a business in Separation Street at about 9am after reports of a dispute.
During that time a man, aged in his thirties, allegedly assaulted another man and police attempted to subdue him with capsicum spray.
The man allegedly attempted to grab a police officer’s gun and it discharged in its holster.
Nobody was injured as a result of the firearm discharging and a police officer sustained minor physical injuries as a result of the scuffle, a spokesperson said.
Police arrested the man, who was in custody and assisting police with their inquiries Wednesday morning.
About a dozen police cars swooped into Separation Street after the incident and officer taped off on a section of the Separation Street business.
Police remained at the scene Wednesday morning to continue their investigation.
