Want to help support local businesses?

It’s more important than ever to support local businesses and jobs. There’s a range of simple ways – many of them free – to keep supporting local businesses while they adapt to changed trading conditions because of COVID-19.

Central Geelong Marketing shares some tips on how you can shop, spend and support local businesses like they depend on it – because
 they do!

Leave a review

You can help by leaving a review for your favourite businesses online. Each review a customer posts online is a form of advertising for that business and helps get the message out about their products and services to a wider audience. People take notice of, and trust, what their friends and family recommend, so give a shout out to the businesses you love and want to help during these challenging times.

A little support goes a long way

Local businesses not only employ local people; they bring character and uniqueness to our streets and community. Think Pete Raimondo at Pistol Pete’s Food ‘n’ Blues or Steven Nichols at Workers BBQ – both local business operators in Little Malop West employing local people and bringing colour and energy to the streets of Central Geelong. Shopping local means more money is kept in the community.
Local businesses regularly purchase from other local businesses and service providers – and that helps grow more businesses and
more jobs.

Get social

Like and follow your favourite businesses to show you care about them. It’s easy for businesses to post on their own social media pages about their products and services and engage directly with an audience that’s already interested in their offer. The team at Love Central Geelong is encouraging people to Follow Your Favourites – follow and list five businesses you want to see survive and thrive over the coming weeks and use the #followyourfavouritesgeelong on social media to challenge colleagues, friends and family to do the same. There’s a $200 voucher to one of your favourite Central Geelong businesses to be won.

Visit Love Central Geelong on Instagram and Facebook and look for the Follow Your Favourites competition post for more details on how to enter.
