Women of Wit tour returns for 2023

The 2023 edition of the hugely successful Women of Wit tour arrives at the Potato Shed next weekend with a lineup including the best of well-known and up-and-coming comedians.

Superstar comic Cal Wilson (The Great Australian Bake Off, Have You Been Paying Attention, Spicks and Specks), the irreverent Nicky Barry, Daisy Webb and Patti Fawcett all feature on this year’s bill, which will also include an as-yet unannounced special local guest.

Fawcett, who won the national Class Clowns competition in 2019 at the tender age of 15, is returning after joining the tour last year.

The Bendigo native said she was excited to come back to the Geelong region, having last performed here in 2021 as a guest performer for Class Clowns.

“It was really, really fun, and I’m excited to go back and do it again,” Fawcett said.

“I also think it’s really important because it’s regional; in regional places there isn’t a lot of comedy, fullstop, and then women doing comedy, there’s even less.

“Growing up and going to school regionally, I know how important these types of shows are to have for people who aren’t going to get into the CBD or North Melbourne to go see a show.”

Fawcett said the show was also a great opportunity to gig alongside people with years of experience on her.

“I’m really excited to see (the other comedians) perform live, either the people I haven’t seen perform before, or someone like Cal Wilson, who I saw when I was getting into comedy,” she said.

“It’s always nice to see people that you respect in comedy actually do it live, see them backstage, how they prepare, if at all.

“Now to actually be doing a show with them is super cool.”

Women of Wit is at the Potato Shed, Drysdale on Saturday, July 8.
