Partial closure at Kardinia Aquatic Centre

Kardinia Aquatic Centre has announced the immediate closure of its Olympic pool system today (Friday, January 13) due to a “diarrhoeal faecal incident”.

City of Greater Geelong’s Director Community Life Robyn Stevens said the incident required staff to apply a treatment regime to ensure the safety of the facilities for use by the community, in accordance with Department of Health guidelines.

Ms Stevens said the centre’s Olympic pool, dive pool, waterslide and kids splash pool, all of which are serviced by the Olympic pool system, will be closed until at least Saturday afternoon.

“We estimate that these facilities will be closed until at least 2pm tomorrow,” she said.

“The team will update the Kardinia Aquatic Centre Facebook page with a precise time for reopening.

“The FINA 50 metre pool remains open as it has a separate circulatory system and has not been affected by the incident.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this partial closure may cause.”

Ms Stevens said Kardinia Aquatic Centre members have reciprocal access to alternatives in Leisurelink, Waterworld, Lara Aquatic Centre, Bellarine Aquatic & Sports Centre and Splashdown.
