Funding for luxury accomodation

Mount Duneed Estate is set to benefit from luxury accommodation funded through a state government grant.

Tourism, Sport and Major Events Minister Martin Pakula this week announced $260,000 from the government’s Regional Tourism Investment Fund would go towards building eight luxury pods at the winery, creating new jobs and drawing more visitors to the region.

“Mount Duneed Estate already attracts diners, wine lovers, and music fans, and this project means they’ll be able to stay longer and enjoy all the region has to offer,” he said.

“We’re supporting projects that bring more visitors to Victoria – supporting local businesses and creating local jobs.”

The boutique one-bedroom spaces will be nestled amongst the estate’s famous vineyard, featuring a modern bathroom and balcony, boasting scenic views.

South Barwon MP Darren Cheeseman said the luxury accommodation would boost tourism to the Greater Geelong region with the winery known for hosting a range of events including weddings, concerts by international artists and the popular music festival A Day on the Green.

“Mount Duneed Estate is an iconic location and the new luxury pods will entice more visitors to enjoy the splendour of the Barrabool Hills,” he said.

Work on the accommodation is due to begin this year and finish by mid-2023, supporting five jobs during construction and a further two once complete, Mr Pakula said.

He said the government’s Regional Tourism Investment Fund was helping entice more visitors to Victoria’s regions, driving private investment and accelerating the recovery of the tourism sector.
