A 17-year-old boy faces serious driving and assault charges after allegedly hitting a 46-year-old Corio woman on a mobility scooter while driving a stolen car.

Emergency services rushed to Shepherdson Road, Corio, about 5.10pm on Tuesday following reports a car had lost control and struck a woman on a mobility scooter.

The driver of the Peugeot wagon, a 17-year-old boy from Corio, fled the scene but officers arrested him a short distance away, police alleged.

An Ambulance Victoria helicopter flew the woman to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

This afternoon she remained in “serious” condition, a Royal Melbourne Hospital spokesperson said.

Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged the boy with negligently causing serious injury, dangerous driving causing serious injury, failing to assist and failing to stop after an accident causing serious injury, driving whilst disqualified, two counts of threatening to inflict serious injury and unlawful assault.

He has been remanded to face a children’s court at a later date.

In a separate incident another 17-year-old Corio boy who allegedly sped at 200km/h in a stolen car faces multiple charges including assaulting an emergency worker and reckless conduct endangering serious injury.

Police arrested the boy and a 15-year-old girl, also from Corio, in Norlane after detecting a black Holden Trax speeding at up to 200km/h in a 100km/h zone along the Princes Highway about midnight on Tuesday.

Geelong Tasking and Crime Intervention Taskforce detectives alleged the 17-year-old boy was involved in a series of aggravated burglaries in Corio, Grovedale and Drumcondra in which three vehicles were stolen.

Detectives charged him with three counts of aggravated burglary, three counts of motor vehicle theft, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, assaulting an emergency worker, driving in a manner dangerous and leaving the scene of an accident.

He has been remanded to face a children’s court at a later date.

Police charged the 15-year-old girl with one count of motor vehicle theft and she was bailed to face a children’s court a later date.
