Woman fighting for life after allegedly-stolen car hits her scooter

A woman is fighting for life after an allegedly-stolen car hit her scooter at Corio on Tuesday evening.

Emergency services rushed to Shepherdson Road about 5.10pm following reports a car had lost control and struck a pedestrian on a mobility scooter.

The driver of the Peugeot wagon, a 17-year-old boy, fled the scene but police arrested him a short distance away.

Paramedics took the 46-year-old Corio woman to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A police spokesperson said Major Collision Investigation Unit and Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating to determine if there are any links behind this incident and a pair of teenagers arrested for speeding in a stolen car on Tuesday night.

Police arrested a 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old Corio boy after sighting a black Holden Trax speeding at up to 200km/h along the Princes Highway about midnight.

The car was allegedly stolen during an aggravated burglary at an address on Amarina Crescent, Grovedale, on Saturday, police said.

A police helicopter tracked the car and officers on the ground arrested the pair when the vehicle came to a stop on the Princes Highway in Norlane.

The pair remained in custody on Wednesday morning, and the police investigation is ongoing.

Police urged anyone who witnessed either car travelling in the Geelong area or who has dashcam footage to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
