Portarlington the top spot for snapper

The fishing this week is continuing to provide anglers with heaps of options both on land and boat with plenty of fish in all parts.

The bay is still hosting the majority of the fishing traffic, with most fishos having one species in mind – snapper! Portarlington is still the number one location, and for good reason, as the fish just seem to be everywhere with the channel holding the best numbers.

Tide changes and, of course, first and last light have definitely been the most productive times to fish.

Out the front of Clifton Springs boat ramp has also been fishing very well for snapper and there seems to be a few good schools of fish holding there, offering the perfect area to fish with limited time.

Alcoa Pier is holding fantastic numbers of salmon and small pinkie snapper at the moment, casting soft plastics into the structure has proved very effective and is providing anglers plenty of fun, bait and food, all in the one location.

King George whiting have responded well after a few blowy days allowing the water to dirty up causing them to go into a feeding frenzy.

St Leonards and Queenscliff have definitely been two standout locations with Queenscliff holding the bigger fish.

The Queenscliff cut is still on fire for the anglers casting soft plastics in the channel with silver trevally, pinkie snapper and salmon all in great numbers and size.

The Queenscliff bight has still got some fantastic squid fishing on offer for anglers fishing in a boat and off land. Land-based fishos are still finding Bell Reef the best location to wade out, while boat-based anglers are finding squid right through the area.

The red hot snapper bite off Barwon Heads is showing no sign of slowing down with some fantastic reports still coming through.

Drifting anywhere between 25 to 60 metres is holding fantastic numbers with fish up to 5kg becoming quite common at the moment.

Barwon River is still fishing well for Redfin and small estuary perch, with still a few yellowbelly being caught among them.

Fyansford and Queens Park are proving to be great locations and once again small hard body lures or soft plastics with jig spinners working best for all species.
