Geelong’s Gordon TAFE will receive almost $3 million for five projects including upgrades to spraying booths in its automotive department.
Training, Skills and Higher Education Minister Gayle Tierney on Sunday announced the funding, which also includes $1 million to refurbish the campus’s T Building roof.
State government will spend another $930,000 for maintenance works at the campus including upgrading exhaust fans in training restaurants, new air-conditioning units and a new hot water system.
A further $150,000 will go towards refurbishing the campus’s main carpark in Fenwick Street, including upgrades to an access stairway and pathways.
Government will invest another $900,000 in upgrading campus lifts and two spraying booths for collision repair training.
“These projects will deliver better facilities for students and staff, and support jobs and local businesses through the pandemic,” Ms Tierney said.
The funding is part of a $55 million investment, announced on Sunday, for essential upgrades to learning facilities to adapt them to deliver more courses.
The investment is part of $1.8 billion announced by government for critical education infrastructure aimed at helping the state’s economy recover from the coronavirus pandemic.
According to state government, an extra 18,000 Victorians will be able to train at TAFEs under a $163 million package of new measures including an expansion its free TAFE program.
