Geelong has recorded six new COVID-19 cases amid Victoria’s deadliest day from the disease so far.
Greater Geelong had 29 active cases, 103 since the pandemic began, as of midnight yesterday, up on 23 the day before.
Colac Otway Shire cases almost doubled again in one day, with 43 (all active) as of midnight yesterday, up on 26 the previous day.
The Department of Health and Human Services has so far linked 43 cases to an outbreak at Australian Lamb Company’s abattoir in Colac.
Surf Coast cases remained level on four, while two people have recovered in the Golden Plains Shire, reducing its active cases to six.
Another seven Victorians have died from COVID-19, bringing the state’s death toll to 56.
These deaths include two men and two women aged in their 80s, and two men and one woman aged in their 90s.
Five of the deaths are linked to aged care facilities.
Victoria recorded 300 new cases yesterday with 20 reclassified – largely due to duplication – increasing the state total by 280 to 7405 as of midnight yesterday.
Of the new cases 51 are linked to outbreaks or complex cases, and 249 are under investigation.
Victoria has 3734 active cases with 1181 cases from unknown transmission.
Currently 206 Victorians are in hospital after contracting COVID-19 with 41 in intensive care, while 3450 people have recovered.
Of the total cases, 6825 are from metropolitan Melbourne, while 424 are from regional Victoria.
More than 1,437,200 tests have been processed to date.

Cases have been linked to five new aged care facilities: Outlook Gardens aged care facility in Dandenong North; BlueCross Riverlea in Avondale Heights; Villa Maria Catholic Homes St Bernadette’s Aged Care Residence in Sunshine North; Fronditha Care in St Albans; and Japara Yarra West in Yarraville.
In education, cases have been identified at three new sites: Nino Early Learning in Bundoora; Impact English College in the city; and Tarneit Senior College.
