Retirement village to open

A new retirement village is expected to open to its first residents this June.

Armstrong Green Retirement Village, run by RCA Villages, will comprise 160 units in resort-style facilities.

“RCA doesn’t just build villages, we build communities, much like country towns,” managing director Andrew Phillips says.

“Retirement living runs in our veins.”

RCA Villages, which has 13 years experience in building retirement communities, purchased the project from YMCA and renamed it Armstrong Green.

Mr Phillips describes Armstrong Green as a premium location, with the Warralily shopping centre on the doorstep.

First residents Don and Maureen Holmes said they are excited to move into their contemporary and modern Armstrong Green home.

The couple have lived in Torquay for the past 20 years. They decided to sell their home and make the move to Armstrong Green because of Don’s health.

“We are both gardeners and Don couldn’t help me maintain the garden as he used to, and so this will be lovely for him,” Maureen says.

“We are getting wonderful support from RCA Villages. We have had nothing but special treatment from Andrew and the team.

“I have a cousin who lives in an RCA village, and a neighbour that we had in Melbourne lives in an RCA village, and they are both very happy, and that was enough for us to make our decision,” she explains.

“It’s a new adventure for us.”

Having people around appealed greatly to the couple, plus all the facilities, including doctor visits, hairdresser, podiatrist, swimming-pool, gymnasium, bowling green, and the close proximity to the shops.

”Everything is there, and at our age, that’s what you want,” Maureen says.
