A Whittington woman faced court on Tuesday after allegedly lighting a fire that killed her husband over the weekend.

Angela Surtees, 33, of Boundary Rd, fronted Melbourne Magistrates’ Court for a filing hearing, charged with murder over the death of 36-year-old Daniel Surtees.

Police attended an address on Boundary Rd about 8.30pm on Saturday and found Mr Surtees with serious burns.

Paramedics rushed him to hospital but he died of his injuries on Sunday.

Arson and Explosives Squad detectives on Monday charged Mrs Surtees with murder following the fatal fire.

Mrs Surtees did not apply for bail during Tuesday’s filing hearing.

A magistrate remanded her in custody to appear again in court on May 11 for a committal mention.
