Crash man shot in head – police

A 53-YEAR-OLD Meredith man was critically injured with a gunshot wound to the head when found in a crashed car on Geelong’s ring road early Tuesday, according to police.
Investigators believed the man was travelling inbound on the ring road when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a guard rail around 1km south of the Hamilton Hwy exit.
An ambulance took the man to Geelong Hospital before he was airlifted to The Alfred in Melbourne.
Police located a firearm lodged between the front passenger seat and console during a search of the crashed vehicle.
Police established that the man received a gunshot wound to the head.
They were still trying to ascertain how he suffered the injury when the Independent went to press on Wednesday.
Police said they were not searching for anyone in relation to the shooting.
