A dog has died and two others are at the vet following three separate attacks at Highton around 6am on Friday.
Council animal management officers seized two Malamute or Akita dogs that allegedly killed the dog and maimed two others.
The officers transported the two dogs to Geelong Animal Welfare Society after capturing them with police assistance.
Paramedics checked the elderly owner of the deceased dog before clearing them to return home.
A council officer assisted the resident in getting home and stayed with them until a family member arrived.
Two other dogs, one in a serious condition, were recovering at a vet, according to council’s planning and development director Joanne Van Slageren.
“We’re in the early process of our investigation into the alleged attacks,” she said.
“We’re currently working with Victoria Police to obtain more information as our investigations proceed.
“We cannot comment further on the alleged attacks until investigations are complete. Community health and safety is our number priority.”
Ms Van Slageren urged residents concerned an animal might attack a person or another animal or who sighted an animal showing aggressive behaviour to phone council on 5272 5272.
