Free champagne will flow in Geelong’s laneways as the city celebrates its newly revitalised centre in an all-ages street party next Friday.
The celebrations kick off with The Gordon’s Waiter’s Race along Little Malop Street at 3pm.
Party goers will be the true winners as the finest local waiters battle to impress and earn the title of Geelong’s best.
The celebrations continue with free champagne and cake for the first 300 people at 4pm.
There will be family fun around every corner with special guests, Norman the Unicorn, Magic Meter Elves and a Piano Bar Prince and Princess singalong.
Pop up shops and photo exhibitions will fill the laneways, while live music, street performances and carnival sideshows will carry on into the night.
The city will also launch its Live Music Action Plan and Chrissy Amphlett mural on the night.
Revitalising Central Geelong this week announced the Laneways Street Party for 8 December, to celebrate the city’s newly upgraded ‘west end’.
Geelong mayor Bruce Harwood invited locals to come enjoy the new trees, public art, alfresco areas and street furniture.
“It’s time to celebrate the completion of this key Revitalising Central Geelong project,” he said.
“It’s an opportunity to enjoy a catch up with friends and family and experience what the revitalised laneways have on offer.”
The businesses in Little Malop Street, James Street and the adjoining laneways will serve after work drinks and dinner.
“I encourage you to come and support local businesses while enjoying the vibrancy of the ‘West End’ of Malop Street and adjoining laneways,” Cr Harwood said.
