FINALLY FRIDAY: Geelong burlesque to show ‘cheek’ in Woodbin

“CHEEKY” comedy takes on a whole new meaning in the latest burlesque show set for Geelong, warns director and actor Charlotte Hukvari.
She described The Sweet Desire Comedy Burlesque Show as a titillating “cabaret with continuity”.
“The cast are all professional actors,” Hukvari said.
“The show features characters who have individual skits and performances.”
Audiences could expect a modern twist on the art of tease, Hukvari said.
“People think that burlesque is just about taking your clothes off but it’s really about making fun of yourself and being free.”
Hukvari said the show’s Geelong cast would still have ample makeup, glitter, sequins and feathers to keep audiences bedazzled.
Hukvari described her character, The Honourable Veronica Superstar, as a “wannabe star who sings, dances and acts” for a taste of the limelight.
Rhiannon Hodgkinson would play “small, adorable maid” Vivien Fluffy Parfait, while Emma Watson features as a “crazily flexible” green fairy.
Philip Besancon would appear as a “very creepy” ring master and Cassi Clingan-Borst took on the character of Miss Cherise “who’s deadly with a corset”.
Hukvari said Amanda Rector rounded out the troupe as Violet Delight, “a Marilyn-esque feather fan dancer”.
Hukvari said the show would be a comedic musical-of-sorts with lots of dancing.
“I want people to see the entertainment and art in burlesque,” Hukvari said.
The performance involved stripping but not strippers, she explained.
“We do peels, not stripteases, because burlesque performers are very different to strippers,” Hukvari laughed.
Geelong’s Woodbin Theatre will host the show from May 3 to 5, with tickets costing $24 from stickytickets.com.au
