Sun descends on Geelong

International performer Nilaja Sun will return to Geelong next month direct from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with her latest play, Pike St.
Sun will bring to life a host of characters living in Manhattan’s lower east at Geelong Performing Arts Centre from 6 September.
Under the shadow of the Manhattan Bridge, a struggling family prepares to ride out the next big storm.
The story begins with Evelyn, who is unable to move her teenage daughter Candace out of their crumbling tenement.
Candace suffered a mysterious aneurysm which rendered her unable to move or breathe on her own. Soon Evelyn plans for more than just survival – she fights for healing and redemption.
Sun portrays characters from decorated a Puerto Rican war veteran Manny, to octogenarian downstairs neighbour Mrs Applebaum, to Candace herself.
Nilaja Sun is an actor, playwright and has taught theatre in New York City public schools since 1998.
Her solo piece No Child, which she also performed in Geelong, has 21 international awards including a Theatre World Award.
Sun has also appeared in various high-profile television shows and movies, including The Bourne Legacy, Madam Secretary, The Good Wife, 30 Rock, Law and Order: SVU and Louie.
Pike St runs in Geelong for five performances, from September 6 to 9, before Sun takes the show to Melbourne.
