Golden Plains Farmers’ Market was a worthy winner of the Tourism & Hospitality category at the 2017 Powercor Geelong Business Excellence Awards.
Taking place on the first Saturday of each month at Bannockburn, the market provides value to Golden Plains Shire and its residents by strengthening opportunities for local growers and makers, supporting the local economy and creating a vibrant community meeting place.
Established in 2009 by Golden Plains Shire council, the market gives visitors access to fresh and nutritious produce, direct from farmers.
Accredited with the Victorian Farmers’ Market Association, the market ensures that produce sold onsite is predominantly grown or made by the stallholder, thus providing an authentic farmers’ market experience.
The market benefits the community by supporting the growth of local agribusiness and acting as a business incubator for new and developing enterprise, allowing them to sell directly to customers.
The market also creates a central hub for retail, social and community activity and promotes Golden Plains as a gourmet food and wine region.
Further to the market’s importance to the region, it is also a key component of the newly formed Moorabool Valley Taste Trail and the Bannockburn Heart project, and encourages future tourism initiatives and business investment in the region.
Bannockburn is a lovely small town just north of Geelong, and the market offers a lively atmosphere for visitors of all ages with live music, family entertainment, espresso coffee, freshly baked doughnuts and more.
