When it comes to helping the community, Geelong Disabled People’s Industries (GDP Industries) is one of the leaders in Geelong.
At GDP Industries, their mission is to support people with a disability as well as being able to offer and provide them with suitable employment.
The chance of a real job is something all Australians deserve, however being in the workforce is more than having employment for a person with a disability. They benefit from interaction with the community, as well as helping them build self-esteem.
The not-for-profit organisation offers long-term supported employment to people with a disability and has been part of the Geelong community for 50 years. If you are registered with NDIS you are welcome to apply for a position at GDP or you can arrange a site visit.
School students in the Geelong area do work experience at GDP Industries. GDP also offers work placement for Justice Department/Office of Corrections clients to fulfil their community service commitments in a light industrial manufacturing environment.
GDP Industries began in 1967 and has held contracts with some of the largest companies in Geelong, such as CoGG, Barwon Health, Cotton-On, Target, One-steel and also Alcoa and Ford.
At GDP Industries, you’ll find a light industrial factory specialising in e-waste and operate a secondhand bookstore where they provide employees with a mixture of skills/training and task rotation opportunities across a range of work areas such as mattress recycling, packaging, textiles, woodwork, steel, and resource recovery.
