Healthy feet equal healthy life

Healthy feet are the foundations of a healthy life, says Geelong podiatrist Keshia Bolton.
Keshia is determined to give Geelong locals the best foot care to keep them walking, running and exercising on their feet.
“If your feet aren’t healthy, they hold you back,” she says. “That’s what inspired me to become a podiatrist.”
Keshia opened her new practice, Foot Foundations Podiatry, on Ryrie Street on 19 June.
Her own knee and hip problems led her to pursue podiatry at the University of Auckland almost a decade ago.
“I love to exercise, run and hike but couldn’t because of the pain,” she says. A visit to a podiatrist and orthotic therapy helped her return to a healthy lifestyle.
“They gave me great advice with footwear, orthotics and exercises,” she says.
“I couldn’t believe how big a difference that made and I just thought of how fulfilling it would be to help other people that way.”
Keshia worked as a podiatrist for roughly seven years in Victoria, but is taking on the “next challenge” opening her own business.
She uses techniques like orthotic therapy to treat a range of clients including athletes, children and the elderly. She even helps diabetics avoid complications such as amputations in later life.
“You can tell a lot from a person’s range of motion and the way they’re walking and standing,“ she says.
“There is more to podiatry than just nail care, calluses and corns.”
