When Daryl and Julie Hardy purchased Mexican Graffiti 14 years ago, it was more a Geelong icon than a restaurant.
“It’s been operating for about 35 years,” Daryl says.
The Lovely Banks couple bought the eatery after they had been dating for just a year.
“Because Julie was a local, she knew the business – we thought yeah we’ll have a go at it,” Daryl says.
The banker and salesman learnt the business as they went and 15 years later they’re still going strong.
“All our seven children have worked there or will. Our son is about to turn 15, and he’s really looking forward to it.”
The restaurant has all-new Taco Tuesdays, with three tacos for $10, and new tastes like corn salsa and pulled pork.
But they’ve still got the classics like enchiladas and fajitas that the regulars keep coming back for more.
“They’ll literally jump off the plane from overseas and come in with their suitcases,” Daryl says.
The customers are the best part of the job, Julie says.
“With seven kids, we’re certainly not quiet people – we love the interaction.”
Located in the CBD, Mexican Graffiti is a great way to start the night, Daryl says.
“It’s the perfect place to go before going out or to the cinema.”
The restaurant has three function rooms, a range of tequilas and a cocktail range starting at $12, making it great for hen’s nights, birthdays, and more.
“The big one is the frozen margaritas which do well,” Daryl says.
Mexican Graffiti has early bird specials from 11am until 6.30pm and kids meal deals, both for under $10.
The restaurant has a car park, gluten-free menu and can split bills.
