Strassman talks it up

CHEESE: Ventriloquist David Strassman and Ted E. Bare pose for a selfie.

David Strassman – perhaps the world’s greatest ventriloquist – will bring the sharp-tongued Chuck Wood and loveable Ted E. Bare to Geelong next week.
Thrust into the world of social media, the veteran puppets have been constantly on their iPads and iPhones, ignoring the real world.
With everyone connected to social media and the internet 24/7, will Strassman get them back under control?
His brand new show, iTED E is an uproarious take on modern technology, promoters said.
In a world-first, he will simultaneously operate five characters in a six-way conversation, with a handheld wireless remote that sets new standards in ventriloquism.
Strassman and his puppet characters will bring mayhem to a set designed by one of New York’s most renowned stage designers, Luke Cantarella.
The artist who “made ventriloquism hip again” has appeared on TV numerous times and had his own show on Channel Nine, with subsequent series in the UK and New Zealand.
But theatre is his favourite, and he can’t wait to take iTedE to stages across Victoria.
Strassman is fresh from a Melbourne tour, where he performed for an extra week due to demand, promoters said.
His characters are a renegade band of puppets you would not want to meet on a dark night.
Ted is cuter than ever, and Chuck just as evil, the spaced-out Kevin the Alien lets everyone know who’s really in charge, and Sid the Beaver cracks a heap of depraved jokes.
David Strassman will perform at the Geelong Performing Arts Centre Playhouse next Monday to Wednesday. For information visit gpac.org.au or phone 5225 1200.
