Korean stars meet the public

Korean baseball team KT Wiz will meet the Geelong community for a special open day this weekend.

Players from the Korean Baseball Organisation (KBO) premier league side will practise at the Geelong Baseball Centre from 10am on Sunday 8 February before running informal skill sessions, posing for photos with fans and signing autographs from 2pm to 4pm.

The event will include a DJ playing K-Pop hits, a photo booth to create your own baseball cards and food and drink.

KT Wiz will also play in the first game of the Diamond Dual series against Melbourne Aces at the baseball centre on Monday 16 February.

Melbourne Aces general manager Justin Huber said he was so excited to bring game one of the Aces vs KT Wiz Diamond Duel to Geelong.

“For our players, the chance to match themselves against some of the best in the world, will be a spectacle not to be missed,” Mr Huber said.

“An international game like this, in an intimate community setting, just doesn’t happen anywhere these days, and we are truly grateful for the opportunity to give the community of Geelong another great sporting event on the calendar.

“We are committed to growing this event well into the future, delivering ongoing legacy for the community and providing an aspirational pathway for our up-and-coming stars.”

Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the popular Korean baseball team had returned to Greater Geelong for a six-week summer training camp.

“We’re incredibly fortunate to have KT Wiz back in the region training, playing and enjoying the local sights and attractions,” he said.

“Our open day will allow community members to get up close and personal with these elite baseballers and pick up some playing tips and tricks.

“It’s my hope that we’ll see a regular number of Geelong born-and-bred players stepping up to the plate to play Major League Baseball, or even in the KBO.”
