Double Take

An Indy reader was amused to find a new addition to her Geelong West streetscape this week.
Amid the usual bitumen, kerbing and signage, a three-legged barbecue had taken residence in the middle of a road (pictured).
Possibly the ‘keep left’ sign beside it was directing foot traffic to the snags and bread, Double Take suggested.
“And go right for sauce and onions!” replied our reader.
Whatever, it was certainly a roundabout way of hosting a barbie!

Witnesses, whistleblowers, undercover operatives – they’re often unidentified in news reports to protect their safety.
Fair enough, too, when they’re exposing issues of significant public importance. Think corruption, organised crime, sex abuse, cops on the take.
But diarrhoea?
Well, personal accounts of gastro now apparently warrant anonymity in Geelong at least.
According to a weekend news report, “a respected local businessman” was going from both ends after consuming dodgy takeaway at a recent soccer match.
Intrigued readers also learnt how our mystery man “vomited so much and had diarrhoea so badly” he lost 3kg.
“It was just terrible,” the unidentified businessman said.
Why the anonymity? Was he worried the vendor would track him down for seconds?

However, the same courtesy was not extended to the alleged culprit.
While concealing the complainant’s name, the page-three report diligently identified the suspect as “a souvlaki with a creamy garlic dressing”.
Outrageous!
In the interests of fairness, surely the description should have been: “A respected Mediterranean dish with a viscous vegetable condiment”.

On the subject of post-takeaway expulsions, Double Take wonders whether veteran Aussie comedian Rodney Rude told his famous taxi joke during last month’s Gateway Hotel show.
If not, it goes something like this …
Rodney, hailing a taxi: “Hey, driver, have ya got room in the back for a dozen beers and a pizza?”
Cabbie: “Sure thing.”
Rodney, leaning in back door: “Blluuuurrrkkkkggggggg.”

The Cats might have handed the Bombers a lesson in footy on the weekend but perhaps an English tutorial would help as well.
According to a pre-match report on the Essendon website, young Geelong player Lincoln McCarthy was ruled out with an ‘Abductor’.
What, he was abducted? Was there a ransom demand?
Essendon later corrected the record in a match-day report documenting McCarthy’s ‘adductor’ injury.
Must have been a relief to mum and dad!
