BEING a single woman is far from the end of the world, according to Jo Thomas.
In fact, the actor says singles can even find themselves in humorous and exciting places.
The actress, who plays lead character Jezabel in theatre production Often I Find That I Am Naked, said the show “honestly exposed” the trials and tribulations of finding love in the 21st Century.
Thomas described the production as a “Sex-and-the-City-meets-Bridget-Jones’-Diary” cabaret.
“Jezebel is looking for love but is only finding a lot of sex and broken hearts,” she laughed.
“It’s something a lot of people can relate to.”
The promoters said Often I Find That I Am Naked was for anyone who had ever dreamed of perfect love only to wake up “hungover and naked in a stranger’s bed…or bathtub”.
“Dating in the 21st Century is complicated. With so many possible avenues to meet Mr Right, how many disastrous speed dates, mobile games and online fabrications must the modern woman endure?”
Thomas said finding humour in the single life was imperative given almost 40 per cent of Australians had no partner.
“You’ve got to keep some hope the right man will come along, so this piece allows us to keep laughing at ourselves.
“We’ve been on the road now for seven weeks and it doesn’t matter if I’m in a mining town in Western Australia or Darwin or Alice Springs, people always stick around after the show to say ‘Oh that’s the story of my life’ or ‘I have a friend whose just like that’.”
Geelong Performing Arts Centre hosts Often I Find That I Am Naked this Friday and Saturday.
