LIGHT the Night is “calling on all angels” to help brighten the lives of cancer victims.
The annual national event will use lanterns stylised to represent love, life and hope to raise money and awareness for Leukaemia Foundation.
The foundation will use the proceeds to help find cures for leukaemia and other blood cancers and to support patients and families.
Geelong’s Light the Night will be at Steampacket Gardens on September 14.
Daryl King said his role as a Light the Night ambassador was “ a bit of a privilege”.
Mr King was diagnosed with leukaemia in March, 2009.
He will light a white lantern at this year’s Light the Night to celebrate his remission.
Mr King said he would reflect on his journey with cancer.
He still struggled with fatigue and had to keep a watch on his heath as other problems arose, he said.
Light the Night meant “a huge amount” to Mr King.
“You go there to speak to people who have been though the same thing as you and they’re the only people who understand what you’re going through or have been though. It’s a terrible way to meet some of the most fantastic people that you could come across.”
Mr King said he was extremely grateful for the Leukaemia Foundation’s support.
He urged participation in Light the Night.
“The best thing the public can do to help the Leukaemia Foundation is to donate what they’ve and offer support to people who have gone through this and their families.”
