First meter goes to ‘fearless’ family

JO Scott’s three children are all energy conscious, so becoming Geelong’s first family to receive a smart meter was “exciting”.
“The children thought it was the best thing ever. They looked through the information pack with me,” Mrs Scott said.
“They’ve all learned about saving energy at school, so they’re going to do the meter reading for me. Daniel is already running around the house turning off all the lights.”
Mrs Scott said the Grovedale family was keen to know just how much power it used.
Powercor plans to install 110,000 of the controversial meters in its service area.
The company said the meters would end estimated billing while offering faster fault detection and response.
Mrs Scott brushed off other consumers’ concerns about bigger bills or radiation from the meters.
“We’re happy to embrace new technology and saw no dangers or health issues.”
