Move bus stop, says accident victim’s father

A bus stop on busy Portarlington Road involved in a serious accident on Tuesday morning has been taken out of service.
A school boy was running to catch a bus at the stop when he was struck by a car, and was airlifted to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition.
Public Transport Victoria said it had been working with Victoria Police and VicRoads to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“In consultation with VicRoads, the bus stop at Melaluka has been temporarily taken out of service and customers for all services are being redirected to nearby bus stops (near Kensington Road and Christie Road) while this incident is examined further.”
The father of the boy lashed out at authorities over the location of the bus stop posting his comments from his son’s bedside in the ICU.
“Kids should not be crossing that highway with busy school and work traffic. The bus must change location to a non-busy road,” the father said.
“There must be a bus stop at the new shopping centre where there is less traffic where kids are safe instead of risking their lives crossing a major busy highway.
“So many accidents and fatalities have happened there. When is the government and local council going to do something about it?
“If they don’t act soon then more people will be seriously injured and killed. I want answers. I’m sick of seeing people killed and injured on this road.
“I want an answer personally from someone from the City of Greater Geelong and the Victorian Government assuring me that something will be done.”
