So popular is the Swedish group’s signature tune, it has garnered a 40th anniversary tour all to itself.
GOLD: The Ultimate ABBA Show will bring its Dancing Queen: The 40th Anniversary Tour to Geelong next month.
The brand new show follows on the heels of the tribute group’s New Arrival Tour last year, performing to sold-out houses and playing to more than 20,000 people across the country.
Arguably one of ABBA’s most popular songs, Dancing Queen was released in August 1976, the single leading the release of the band’s fourth album Arrival.
Rolling Stone magazine listed the track as one of the greatest songs of all time, linked indelibly with the era of flares, platform shoes and disco balls.
It’s been almost 34 years since ABBA broke up but the world still can’t get enough of the Swedish pop sensations, in one form or another.
Stage productions, movies and tribute shows have all paid testament to the enduring popularity of the band’s hits, anthems and – let’s face it – the soap opera of the stars’ lives.
Australia still holds onto its enduring love affair with ABBA ever since the group released its down under ode, Bang a Boomerang.
Arguably now Australia’s most authentic ABBA tribute show, GOLD: The Ultimate ABBA Show features internationally recognised ABBA performers, Hayley Maybury (Agnetha), Jessica Sankey (Frida), Jack McGirr (Benny) and Adriano Le Mura (Bjorn).
GOLD: The Ultimate ABBA Show prides itself on giving audiences a true ABBA experience, hoping to unleash all those inner dancing queens in a two-hour concert production.
The show comes to Geelong Performing Arts Centre’s Playhouse theatre on 1 April.
