The transition journey

Transitioning from primary school to secondary school is a significant event in every child’s education journey.
At Sacred Heart College, we cherish and protect our students’ curiosity and natural inquisitiveness through an induction program focused on self-directed exploration, creativity and problem solving.
Our aim is to empower students so that they can settle into secondary school life with confidence.
The orientation program avoids placing extra pressure on the students, instead gradually introducing them to the various aspects of their new school.
During their last term in primary school, Year 6 girls receive their Sacred Heart College username and password, and are encouraged to explore the college’s intranet. At this time, most girls also receive a visit at their primary school from a Sacred Heart teacher who provides answers to their questions.
An orientation day in December provides the students with a glimpse of life at the college, and an opportunity to meet their homeroom teacher and classmates. Additional activities are also available, such as Jumpstart and Solo Flyers, offering extra support before students commence Year 7.
The transition program continues in the second part of the first week of the school year where the timetable is abandoned and instead students are given time to familiarise themselves with their peers, staff and new school surroundings.
Throughout the transition program parents are seen as welcomed partners in their daughters’ educational journey and we strive to connect and involve them in school life and empower them to engage in their daughter’s learning.
Sacred Heart College strives to ensure that transitioning from primary school to secondary school is a positive experience for all our girls.
