Cookin’ up a storm with Tex

The dulcet tones of the ever-popular Hammond organ will be the main course at Motor City Music Festival when Cookin’ on 3 Burners turn up the heat.
The soul, blues, jazz fusion outfit defy classification, taking elements from various genres to create their own musical stew.
Throw in prime vocals from the likes of Tex Perkins (The Cruel Sea, Beasts of Bourbon) and Melbourne soul queen Stella Angelico and the set becomes piping hot.
After a sweet tasting collaboration on the song “Flat On My Back” for their award-winning 2014 album Blind Bet, Cookin’ and Tex were keen to get back in the kitchen for another round.
The result is a real treat with dessert supplied by smoking soulstress Stella Angelico as a special guest. Jake Mason (organ) Dan West (guitar) and Ivan Khatchoyan (drums) style themselves as Australia’s hardest hitting Hammond organ trio.
Veterans of the music scene, the three have a multitude of gigs, tours and six albums to their credit.
Evidence of the trio’s standing in the Melbourne musical community is the list of collaborations, with guest appearances by vocalists Daniel Merriweather, Kylie Auldist, Harry James Angus (Cat Empire) and Jason Heerah (Electric Empire).
Formed in 1997, Cookin’ On 3 Burners was always meant to be an experiment in sound, serving up a feast of tasty funk on a bed of Hammond soul.
Cookin’ On 3 Burners landed at esteemed UK label Freestyle Records, had songs featured on a string of hit TV shows and played alongside acts such as Quantic, Alice Russell, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and Fat Freddie’s Drop.
Catch the Hammond heroes on the Saturday night blues and roots stage.
