Two regional projects have received $1.2 million in funding, creating 38 new jobs, Member for Corangamite Sarah Henderson has announced.
Lethbridge Airport Fuel Infrastructure Project and Diversitat’s Healthy Living Centre for Ageing in Norlane received the money under Round Two of the Australian Government’s National Stronger Regions Fund.
Ms Henderson said the installation of permanent fuel tanks and other infrastructure at Lethbridge Airport would enable a host of other businesses to utilise the facilities.
“The Lethbridge Airport Fuel Infrastructure Project will provide a permanent fuel supply to support the growing Geelong region aviation tourism and commercial market as well as the current and future recreational aviation fleet,” Ms Henderson said.
“Lethbridge Airport is rapidly expanding, creating further demand for improved access to fuel. This project will provide critical operational capability for both fire-fighting assets and air ambulance helicopter services in western Victoria.
“Modelling indicates that by 2021, fuel uplifting would have a total economic impact of $4.44m per annum, with at least 14 full time jobs.”
Ms Henderson said Diversitat’s new Healthy Living Centre would provide programs and services for communities facing significant challenges in accessing aged care services.”
“The centre will be purpose built for ease of access and mobility and include a high needs dedicated area.
“The location of the centre in Norlane will provide a significant economic boost for the region.
“The construction phase will provide 24 new jobs and once completed will employ 16 staff with allowance for 4 new positions.
“These projects have been identified as priority infrastructure by local communities.
“The fund encourages communities to form partnerships to deliver projects between not-for-profit organisations, local, state and territory governments as well as the private sector.”
The National Stronger Regions Fund provides $1 billion over five years to promote economic growth and address disadvantage in Australia’s regions.
