Daz, Laurie take five in the pool ….

TALK about throwing themselves in the deep end … well maybe it was the shallow end.

Geelong mayor Darryn Lyons and swim coach Laurie Lawrence were happy to get more than their feet wet for the school holidays at Waurn Ponds’ Leisurelink.

Olympic coach Lawrence developed World Wide Swim School, a leading online swimming resource for parents, teachers and swim schools.

The water safety advocate also created the Kids Alive — Do the Five program aimed at keeping kids safe with water.

The program advocates a handful of commonsense safety essentials: fence the pool, shut the gate, learn to swim, supervise and learn to rescusitate.
