Tailored care for residents

THE team at Bupa Bellarine is passionate about providing personalised care for residents by tailoring its approach to meet their individual needs and preferences.
Bupa’s Person First care strategy is also extended to residents’ relatives and community members caring for people with dementia.
The aged care home has set up a support group that provides a supportive, caring environment for carers to come together and share their experiences with each other while the trained employees offer their expertise on caring for dementia sufferers.
The group meets once a month at Bupa Bellarine where they either hear from a guest speaker or go out on Bupa’s bus for afternoon tea.
Bupa Bellarine team member Wendy Batty has received dementia-expertise training and organises the monthly gatherings.
“The gatherings provide members with an outlet to openly discuss how they are feeling and how they have overcome some of the challenges they may have faced during the past month,” Wendy explains.
“It’s all about connecting people experiencing similar things to let them know that they’re not alone on this journey and that support is available.
“If you or anyone you know would like to join the support group, please give me a call at the care home on 5248 1004. We’d love to welcome new members into our group.
“You can attend just once or come regularly. I just want carers to know that there is support available to them in the local community.”
