PEAK recreational fishing bodies and the operators of the Geelong Star are negotiating a truce over the use of the small pelagic fishery, off the coast of Tasmania.
Launceston’s The Examiner today reports that while the Geelong Star is docked in Victoria after the vessel killed eight dolphins and four fur seals last month peak bodies earlier this month its operators a “proposal” for shared use of the species that inhabit the fishery, but the proposal was rejected.
The Geelong Star’s operators then sent a counter proposal, but it was also rejected.
TARFish chief executive officer Mark Nikolai said the peak bodies have sent one final proposal to the Geelong Star’s operators and have given them until 5pm today to agree.
