Police clear Anakie hit-run suspect

POLICE have discounted suggestions a man who has allegedly been harassing cyclists in the Anakie area was responsible for a hit-run fatality on Sunday.

Earlier information suggested the offender in the hit-run may have also been responsible for several other road rage incidents in the area recently.

Investigators have identified a 27-year-old Bell Post Hill man in relation to the harassment incidents. He has been ruled out as a suspect in relation to the hit-run.

“We’ll be speaking to the 27-year-old in regards to his behaviour on the roads but we’re confident he is not related to this case,” Detective Sergeant Andrew Kilpatrick from the Major Collision Investigation Unit said.

“We really want to bring closure to this family by finding those responsible.

“If you have any information relating to this collision please contact police or call Crime Stoppers.”

It is believed the male cyclist was struck by a car on Geelong-Ballan Road just after 2.30pm on 10 May.

The vehicle involved did not stop at the scene.
