Young musos hitting hot notes in big band

THE ANNUAL Geelong Summer Music Camp, attracting vocalists and instrumentalists from Victoria and interstate, starts this weekend.
The program is designed for 220 students at all levels from age nine to 21.
Held at The Geelong College Preparatory School in Newtown, the camp runs over five days with a final concert to be held at Deakin University’s Costa Hall.
Open to the public, the concert showcases a range of ensembles including concert bands, string orchestras, a stage band and a symphony orchestra followed by a massed item. Over 850 people attend the concert each year.
This year, participants can choose from 11 electives including school of rock and film music composition.
Auditions start Sunday 11 January. For more information and to register, visit gsmc.org.au.
