Mad Max back with a blast

HE’S back – bigger, madder and armed with more Hollywood pyrotechnics than a small war.

Mad Max, Anakie’s post-apocalyptic hero, hit the digital world this week with the first trailer peep into his latest franchise Mad Max: Fury Road, set to hit the big screens next year.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for Mel Gibson, though, although he does make a cameo appearance.

This Mad Max isn’t any ageing road warrior, he’s Max in his prime – played by MMA celluloid warrior Tom Hardy —  and it’s as savage and explosive as any of its predecessors.

Thirty-plus years after the original, Fury Road has been described as a re-imagining of the original Mad Max, filmed on the backroads of Anakie and Lara and at Avalon Beach’s shantytown.

George Miller, who directed the 1979/81/85 Mad Max trilogy, has assumed directing, producing, and writing tasks in Fury Road.

Hardy appears alongside Charlize Theron in the ultra–stylised wasteland battle for water.

Not a great deal of the plot has been publicised but the new trailer says it’s about two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order to the desert chaos: the taciturn Max, seeking peace of mind after losing his wife and child; and Furiosa, a woman who believes she might survive if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.
