Park meeting go-ahead

By John Van Klaveren

Ocean Grove Park Association’s committee has agreed to hold a special general meeting over a proposed $1 million performance space.
Association member Christine Brooks said she requested the meeting, backed by 26 other signatories, including eight foundation members.
The Independent reported last week Ms Brooks was threatened with legal costs for making requests for the special general meeting.
Ms Brooks said the meeting would consider a series of proposed amendments to association rules, restricting decisions to less than $20,000.
“If these resolutions are passed, the proposed multi-purpose building will not go ahead,” Ms Brooks said.
“The Committee will not be able to make a decision of such financial magnitude again, unless it has been endorsed in-principle by special resolution at a members meeting.”
The association has already scheduled a seperate meeting for 2pm on 19 July at The Wave to update members on the status of the performance space. Geelong council has allocated $200,000 towards it.
Ms Brooks said the date of the special general meeting had yet to be set, as the association rules prescribed a 21 day notice.
Ms Brooks said members were concerned the performance space would leave the association with a heavy financial burden.
