Council chief quits for SES

Geelong City council chief Steve Griffin has resigned to take up a role with Victorian State Emergency Service.

Mr Griffin was nearing the end of a five year contract as City CEO.

Police and emergency services minister Kim Wells said he welcomed the appointment.
“Mr Griffin brings to the SES a great deal of experience gained over decades working in various roles in local government, working with corporate, government and community stakeholders.
“I congratulate Mr Griffin on his appointment and look forward to working positively with him, in what is an exciting new chapter for the SES.”
Mr Griffin begins his new role in May.

He leaves Victoria’s largest regional council, with a annual turnover of around $280 million, for the $100 million SES with 146 staff and 5000 volunteers.
