Call to make deb dream come true for disabled

Volunteers a seeking a fleet of fairy godmothers and fathers to sprinkle their magical generosity over disabled Geelong residents preparing for their very own ball.
Disability services provided Karingal and community group Zonta Club of Geelong need donations of “preloved” deb and wedding dresses and suits to dress up participants for Starry Starry Night.
The presentation ball will feature 30 male and female Karingal clients presented to Geelong’s Mayor on May 21.
Karingal general manager Robyn Bradshaw said the event would allow participants to live the “dream of becoming a debutante”.
Organisers needed the community to rally behind the event with donations, she said.
“Costs associated with deb dresses and suits can be very high and we are hoping people in the community could help out with some pre-loved items.”
Ms Bradshaw said the ball had become a talking point throughout Karingal.
“Our participants are really looking forward to learning the dances, getting dressed up and being presented to a room full of their friends and family as well as member of the Geelong community,” she said.
“We’re very excited about making this event a night to remember for everyone.”
Ms Bradshaw said organisers also needed in-kind support from businesses with decorations, floristy, hair and make-up and other event-related supplies.
She asked any individual or organisation wanting to donate clothing or other items to phone Melissa Farrell on 5229 8733 or email mfarrell@karingal.org.au.
