Geelong fund launched

An $11 million Geelong Advancement Fund was launched by Victorian Premier and Minister for Regional Cities Denis Napthine at Deakin University today.

Dr Napthine said the guidelines were designed to deliver community infrastructure, enhance the liveability of Geelong and drive growth in employment and business investment.

“The Victorian Coalition Government is firmly focused on building on the many competitive advantages Geelong has to offer as the state’s second largest city,” Dr Napthine said.

With the launch of these guidelines, community groups, local government and business can begin planning their submissions for projects that will make Geelong an even better place to live.

“Any organisation with a project that demonstrates a clear economic or community benefit for the Greater Geelong area is encouraged to apply, including public and private sector agencies, education and community organisations,” Dr Napthine said.

The GAF is one stream of the broader $15 million Geelong Development Fund, which also includes the $4 million Geelong Industry Fund established last year to support business growth in the region.

“These two funds will work side by side to stimulate job growth through strategic partnerships with businesses, while driving population growth through building on Geelong’s vibrant cultural facilities,” Dr Napthine said.

“The Coalition Government is committed to supporting Geelong and the broader region through initiatives such as our $93 million contribution to the hospital upgrade, $26 million contribution to Kardinia Park and $15 million contribution to the Geelong Library and heritage Centre.

“By helping regional communities grow and diversify, we will improve the productive potential of the state as a whole,” Dr Napthine said.
